Cal Expo has a 10-race card with the 0.20 Pick 4 starting in Race 7. The sequence has a $25,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 (6:55 PM PST)

3-Dancin Lance (3-1)-Got on the engine on 1-14 and almost lasted on a night that closers did well. Likes to win at CalX, 15 of 44 is impressive. James Kennedy should be on top or in the pocket and either can work for the top prize.
4-A Major Omen (2-1)-This is another 8-year-old who should go back to his usual style and be on the point or just behind the one above. Raced from the back on 1-14 and 8 lengths at the half was too much to overcome. Snapped a 2-race win streak and could return to winning ways tonight.

Race 8 (7:15 PM PST)

4-Down It (10-1)-Cruised home in 153.1 four races back and since then had excuses in the next 3 starts. If there was a time where that same type of effort could happen again this might be it. The price will be right and has the gate speed to get the top and not look back.
5-Gorgeous For Real (2-1)-This isn't a solid field and will need to include with this post draw but doesn't merit a short price. She can win but it will probably only happen off a smooth trip.
6-Sporty Spook A (9/2)-Team Cutting entry is another who will need a trip but should offer a fair price. There was a time when this Sportswriter gelding would have crushed this field. But at 13, his winning moments are infrequent but is worth using against this crew.

Race 9 (7:35 PM PST)

2-Sneak Peek Hanover (5/2)-Drops, comes back in sequence and may have met a beatable field. Will look for Luke Plano to stay in reach of the leaders, that's what this one-move type needs to win.
5-Marc Box Twenty (6-1)-Raced on 1-21 versus similar in what appeared to be a training mile. Needed the start, hadn't raced since 1-5 and was hung the mile that night. Lagged the gate to start, raced behind a gapper but went the back half in 58.3. Finished a well beaten 4th but has had excuses in the last 2 starts and comes back in sequence so will look for better at a price.

Race 10 (7:55 PM PST)

1-Dardick Vic (12-1)-Price shot makes the 3rd start on Lasix and didn't have much of a chance in the previous 2 races. Started from post 8 and raced well after being far back early and will toss last week in the slop. Svendsen could work a ground saving trip and make the most of starting inside of the chalks.
6-Justcallmehungry (2-1)-Beaten 2-1 favorite tried going gate to wire and faded down the lane. Will add points for the effort, it came on a sloppy track and that isn't the type of trip the sophomore has been getting. Could be better here but the price will probably be small again.
8-Omadome (7/2)-Broke its maiden from post 7 at a healthy 6-1 last time and that was the 1st start for the Cutting barn. Did go a 57.1 back half and maybe this barn has found the keys to this youngster. The post should keep the price fair and deserves some respect. Faces a bit tougher and to win again will probably need its best race ever.
