Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, February 26, 2024

Yonkers Raceway has an 11-race card. The 0.50 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool begins in Race 5. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 8 (9:20 PM EST)

1-Kingsville 7/2-This level might be too tough, but the Di Domenico trainee is usually in the hunt. Knows how to battle, plus drawing the rail could make a big difference. George Brennan should be no worse than in the pocket around the first turn and just might trip out at a fair price.
2-Leonidas A 3-1-This looks like the spot for the veteran to pick up the first win of the year. Drops and should handle this group. But recent form has been dull albeit versus better and this 9-yr-old shouldn’t be close to 3-1 if all systems are "go".

Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

1-Seth Hanover 3-1-This isn’t my favorite horse but when he takes a rare picture these days it is by getting on the point and not looking back. Tonight, George Brennan should be able to protect the rail and not have to blister the 6-year-old off the gate. If that happens, this will give him a decent shot at a picture.
4-Reining Deo 2-1-Has finished a beaten 2nd in the last 2 starts in the claiming series. But since returning from Monticello has faced 2 tough winners who are not involved tonight. The post draw could work for Matt Kakaley to duck and look to sweep by late in the mile.

Race 10 (10:00 PM EST)

2-Coaches Corner (2-1)-This looks like a 2-horse battle and the Bartlett-Engblom team draws inside and is probably a little quicker off the gate than #5. Has been close to taking a picture in the last 3 starts and could very well start a new win streak tonight.
5-Semi Tough (5/2)-Winner of 2 in a row was used a couple of times to win when bumped up to this condition on
2-19. Yannick Gingras will be aggressive, and the Burke trainee should be a player at the wire with a fair trip.

Race 11 (10:20 PM EST)

1-San Domino A (4-1)-Hasn't sealed the deal in 5 starts this year. Probably didn't really deserve to cash the top check except in one race. Gingras has the rail, and we will see if that makes a difference. Will respect chances but can't fully trust.
3-RJ Sports Image (5/2)-This is another who is 0-5 and not off to a great start after banking over $125k in 2023. Makes the first start for the hot Alexander barn. Might wake-up with a change of scenery and with Brennan steering.
6-Hurrikanekingjames (7/2)-Winner in 2 of the last 3 races, and the last start was at this level, deserves some respect despite starting outside of main foes. Should be a solid price, and Jordan Stratton could provide a sharp steer and be the best in the late going.
