Del Mar 7th Race – Post: 5:02 PT. Degree of confidence: A-
Top Selection: 5-Hothead
Other Contenders
none.

Forecast: In this maiden special weight sprint for California-bred 2-year-olds, the first timer Hothead looks like a stick out. Bred to win early (Bodexpress) and doing everything in the morning like a seasoned vet, the M. Glatt-trained colt appears to have plenty of speed but can finish as well, as he did in a recent five furlong team drill (1:00.2h) while appearing best over the older, seasoned starter allowance winner Clampett. The M. Glatt barn is superb with first time starters (20% with a powerful ROI), and with A. Fresu (big stats with this jockey) taking the call, the R. Barton homebred looks extremely life and well-meant. At 5/2 on the morning line, he’s a logical key in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

Del Mar 10th race – Post: 5:10 PT. Degree of confidence: A-
Top Selection: 6-Miracle Ball
Other Contenders:
5-Girvin Gal; 7-Not a Sinner.

Forecast: Miracle Ball has trained like a smoker for her debut and at this five furlong trip on grass the daughter of Competitive Edge should be hard to beat, assuming she makes no mistakes along the way. A breeze last Saturday in 1:00h) while best of a team was accomplished under a hammerlock through the lane, with the F. Garcia-trained sophomore able to go much faster if allowed to at any stage. This a fairly decent race for the level but from what we’ve seen of her in the morning this quick-actioned filly fits nicely. She’s listed at 3-1 on the morning line and is a confident play at that number.
