Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis | Sunday, January 26, 2025

Northfield Park begins the week with a 15-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a 14% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:40 PM EST)

2-Zanetti (7/2)-The veteran is in fine form and should be bet from the inside. Will respect chances although this level might be too much. Aaron Merriman will get the most out of drawing the rail after being stuck with post 9 in the last 2 starts.
6-Timeisonmyside (7/2)-Winner of 2 straight at the Meadows ships in and comes back in sequence. AMac will probably look to get the top off the gate. That may not happen, but a pocket trip could lead to a picture as well.
7-Night Shadow (3-1)-The program chalk has won two in row against this kind and has the gate speed to get the top when the wings fold. The outside draw might hurt with some gate speed inside. Could win coming off cover but it isn't the preferred plan.

Race 12 (10:02 PM EST)

2-Old Town Road (5/2)-Takes a double bump up after going gate to wire. The 7-year-old could take another picture with an inside draw. But this level will be a test and might be bet down. Ronnie Wrenn does post 36% winners when steering for the Headworth barn and should have the veteran in play early in the mile.
3-Jim Blue (9/2)-Can be a player versus this crew if Kody Massey provides a sharp steer. The price is right to use and could get an early lead. Should be hard to tackle if lands on the point without an issue.

Race 13 (10:22 PM EST)

1-Down On My Luck (2-1)-Should relish the company, Merriman sticks, and this post draw could make a winning a difference. Likes to race on the engine and that plan should be followed tonight.

Race 14 (10:44 PM EST)

1-Zonder (2-1)-Has taken 1 picture in 38 starts but that win came at Nfld. The record on this oval isn't too shabby
(9-1-5-0) and has an opportunity to notch another win. This is not a salty group and has the post edge on the 2nd choice.
3-Joyful Jenny (5/2)-This mare has won 2 straight, is the one to beat and could go off as the chalk. Has won 3 of 11 at Nfld and Justine Irvine can land in a close-up seat. Should be stalking and may prove to be the best down the lane.
