Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis | Sunday, August 17, 2025

Northfield Park begins the week with a 15-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a 14% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:40 PM EDT)

1-Lake Charles (3-1)-The veteran is usually in the mix at the wire versus this kind. Last week, was hung into a 53.4 opening half and faded badly later in the mile. Does good work racing on the point or close to it and should be there tonight without burning much gas. Looks like a main player and will likely be bet down.
5-Rock With JK (6-1)-Ships in from ScD and should fit. Has won 4 of 6 at Nfld and has enough gate speed to get a close-up seat. Could offer a square price and has a 1.51 mark at Nfld.
6-Mufferraw Joe (4-1)-Fired hard off the gate 2 back and landed on the point into a 26.2 opening quarter. Faded down the lane to lose by <1 length against this kind. Dan Noble could try the same script and could be the best with an efficient opening quarter.

Race 12 (10:02 PM EDT)

2-Liteningonthebeach (3/2)-Has burned money as an odds-on chalk in the last 2 races and will be bet again. Fits with this field and is difficult to leave off the ticket. Draw inside and may have met a beatable field but can't fully trust.
7-Humble A (4-1)-This will be the 1st start since 6-9, and the qualifier at ScD on 8-12 was fine. Gets the services of Brett Miller and he hasn't steered recently, except in the qualifier. Showed good speed at Yonkers and will take a swing is ready for its Nfld debut. Could surprise if close enough to leader at the top of the lane.

Race 13 (10:24 PM EDT)

3-Heerz Popeye (2-1)-Returns to Nfld after making a couple of races on the Fair circuit. Does good work at Nfld
(12-5-2-1) and won the last time in at this level. Has enough gate speed to get on the engine when the wings fold and not look back.

Race 14 (10:46 PM EDT)

4-Atlas Hanover (2-1)-Started from post 8 and was used off the gate in the 1st race in over a month. Faded to finish 8th in a needed start and did take some money. This will be the 2nd race in the Jason McGinnis barn, and he owns as well after a 7-4 claim. Merriman gets the call and will expect an improved effort.
7-Shrimp And Grits (15-1)-Makes the 1st start for the Renae Loney barn and she won her only race following a claim. Doesn't claim often, and this looks like a family purchase. Brett Miller gets the call and he has some gate speed to use. Doesn't face a deep group, so will use and hope the morning line price holds up.
