Congratulations to Andy Muhlada, champion of the 2025 Fun in the Sun handicapping tournament’s final table on Labor Day Monday. Muhlada outplayed a field of 32 individuals that included a trio of dual-qualifiers from the contest’s weekly rounds of Saratoga and Del Mar summer action. In doing so, he took down the $8,267.88 cash prize and became the sixth final table winner in FITS history.

The $15,032.50 total pool for this year’s contest was paid out to the top 5 finishers in the Final Table. 1/ST seeded the pool with $10,000-added.

Muhlada posted a $255 bankroll total from the final table’s 10 mandatory plays (final 5 races at Saratoga, first 5 races at Del Mar). That proved comfortably clear of runner-up Christopher Cupples ($237.40), who earned $3758.12 in prize money. Edward Peters was the only other player to top $200 ($225.90) and that was good for $1,503.25. The prize winners were rounded out by Arthur Estilore ($115) and Joe Rotell ($105.90), who earned $751.63 each.

Muhlada was the Week 6 qualifying round winner of Fun in the Sun and earned $924 during that contest. Of the 7 weekly winners, Muhlada was the only to cash in the top-5 at the final table.

The final table format was created in 2020 and its winners have included Robert Rosen (2020), Wayne Tam (2021), Kevin Saunders (2022), Joe Tambasco (2023) and Gordon Maruya (2024). Both Rosen and Tam qualified for this year’s final table, but were unable to duplicate their past title runs.
