The Meadows has a stacked 13-race card featuring Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championships for 3-year-olds. Races 5-8 have the most significance as they include four $300,000 PASS Championship races. That is also the sequence for a $0.50 Pick 4, which has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 5 (2:05 PM EDT)
1-Hangover (6/5)-Not sure drawing the rail will be a great benefit for the Ake Svanstedt pupil. Might wire the field but could be better served not trying to go gate to wire. Dave Palone is a very good driver to have at the controls, and this filly deserves respect. Using, but will also use another that won't be a very small price.
2-MS Prada (9/2)-The Ron Burke entry with Ronnie Wrenn might look to get on the point early on. Has done good work at Mea (8-3-2-1) and from the inside the Greenshoe filly should be in the hunt at the wire. Did lose to the one above 2 back starting from post 1, so my guess is this gal could be overlooked and payoff at better than 9/2.
Race 6 (2:25 PM EDT)
2-Big Shoes (7/2)-Ships back from Kentucky where overall the results were good. Now is back on an oval where it hasn't missed the board in 4 races and has taken 3 pictures. Has a post edge that Yannick Gingras will exploit. Could land on the engine and make every call a winning one.
3-Meshuggah (6-1)-The Marcus Melander entry should like being back on this oval. Has raced 4 times at Mea and has banked over $188,000 (4-2-2-0). Recent form has been dull but isn't out of place with this crew. This could be wake-up time at a big number.
4-Cheers Hanover (7/2)-The Burke 3-year-old is usually in the money except when it breaks stride. Taking steps is a risk but has been good the last 3 starts. Ronnie Wrenn should have this one racing near the top of the stack and to be in play turning for the wire.
Race 7 (2:45 PM EDT)
1-Mike And Minnie (8/5)-Ships in from the Red Mile and is looking for its 7 straight win. This is a monster 3-year-old filly and if she brings her best game the win streak will continue. Many will single and will get no argument from me. But her only loss this year came from the rail, and just in case that matters here, will use one other that has a 149.2 mark at Mea this year.
2-Time Of The Season (6-1)-This is a fast filly who has hit the board in 10 of 12 at Mea (12-5-5-0). Andrew McCarthy is between the pipes, and it looks like there is a good chance of a pocket ride happening. Will need to trip out to win and should reward backers with a nice payout if that happens.
Race 8 (3:05 PM EDT)
7-Louprint (3-1)-Leaning this way primarily because this is the best horse on this oval and it has a post edge on a very tough customer, #8-Prince Hal Hanover. Twisted Destiny is no slouch and starts from the pylons but not sure the Chris Ryder colt can go gate to wire this time. The other X-Factor is Ronnie Wrenn Jr who is a very good driver and is at his best on smaller ovals. Lou can leave, get a decent seat, and doesn't have to be on the point from start to finish to cash the top check. Will look for this hometown favorite to be a cut above the rest and to continue winning.
