Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, September 8, 2025

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card, and the $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

2-Dontlikeitleave (9/5)-The last time Jason Bartlett steered he beat similar back in July. The Nick DeVita entry cashed small checks recently versus $60k claimers and now drops to a much better level for success.
4-Smooth Lou (5-1)-This is the 3rd start for the Corey Stratton barn and lost by a nose in the previous 2 races. My take is there will be a lively pace and Jordan Stratton has good gate speed to use. Should be stalking close to the leader turning for the wire.

Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Lucapelo A (3-1)-Closed in .55 last time and cashed a 4th place check losing by 3/4 of a length. This time there should be a livelier pace. Has beaten better here before, buts steps up and that should help the price. This is another who can stalk and be the best down the lane.
4-Hickfromfrenchlick (8-1)-Gets some class relief, plus post relief and could be overlooked. This is a level where a win could happen and Mark MacDonald should have the pedal down from the word go.

Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

2-Always A Thrill (3-1)-Was consistently 1-2 or 3 at this condition and this will be the first race back after a sick scratch on 7-21. Comes off a crisp qualifier on 8-27 at PcD winning on the engine. Will look for the Devita trainee to fire hot off the bench in a competitive event.
6-Heza Charttopper A (6-1)-Comes off a sharp win leaving from post 4 and was used hard early. Has raced well with 2 wins at this level in the last 4 starts and the only clunker was when it drew the 6 hole. But had no shot when they went to the half in .57 and will likely be overlooked tonight. Is worth a swing at the program price, and they probably aren’t going to the half in .57 this time.
7-Endofstory (7/2)-Bartlett doesn’t always pick the winning horse when he has options. But he is on the money often and this was his choice over others. Does have the gate speed to get a good early seat. Bartlett won with the Dilloian trainee back at the end of May and when they team up the win rate is 46%.

Race 9 (9:25 pm EDT)

4-Dancin Sancho (8-1)-The 1-21 record this year is cause for pause but raced well in its YR debut from the 8-hole. Went the back half in 54.4 to cash a 3rd place check and is worth a swing against this group at anything close to the morning line price.
6-Funatthebeach N (10-1)-Will close it out with another price shot. Most likely Mark MacDonald will be out and rolling on the drop in class. Could make some noise if gets the top off the car. Willing to fade the rail horse at 6/5 and look for some value from this veteran who comes back in sequence.
