This is the last Grand Circuit racing day of 2025 at the Red Mile. It is a stakes heavy 11-race card and the Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $7,500 guaranteed pool with a low 12% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 6 (2:40 PM EDT)
1-Fusion (6-1)-Surprised at 8-1 in last off an efficient trip and with hot fractions. TMac sticks with Prince Hal (8), and no surprise there, so Dexter Dunn gets the nod. Will look for a similar path to another picture and could payoff at a solid number again.
5-Papis Pistol (4-1)-Beaten 1-2 chalk was used very aggressively and was lit up into a 53.1 opening half. This time won't be a short price and will look for Jason Bartlett to provide a kinder trip. Best to respect as this race could set up differently.
8-Prince Hal Hanover (6/5)-Can't see Todd McCarthy holding back when the wings fold and will look for another explosive move off the car. Hal doesn't need to take control around the opening turn. But should land no worse than in the pocket, and that can be good enough to win.
Race 7 (3:00 PM EDT)
1-Huntinthelastdolar (7/2)-Willing to take a swing here and will assume the morning line price is a little low. Jason Bartlett knows the Engblom trainee well. He will look to protect the rail and if so, could be tough to tackle if leading turning for the wire.
5-Captian Albano (6/5)-The Noel Daley standout is the one to beat and is a perfect 2-2 on the red clay. The start of this race will be interesting, and this is the season debut at Lex for the 4-year-old. Will likely win if brings its A-game, will respect but not single.
Race 8 (3:20 PM EDT)
1-Champagne Room (5-1)-Smoked the back half in sub .53 if the chart is correct and was 8th at the top of the lane. Meandered down the lane, found a seam and rolled by. Has won only 2 of 13 at Lex. But this is a fast horse who has banked over $204K in Lexington and could double up.
4-Rose (20-1)-Didn't race poorly at all in Dela but wasn't a match for those at the top of the ticket. Came a good 2nd its last start here. The Burke barn is hot, Yannick Gingras should have in play around the last turn, so will use and hope the morning line price holds up.
6-Found (6-1)-Will fade the 2-1 program chalk #5, and land on another who could win at a square price. Was used hard off the gate in last and couldn't close fast enough down the lane. Will look for TMac to work a covered trip this time and that is probably the best option to win.
Race 9 (3:40 PM EDT)
2-Miss Belmar (15-1)-Probably needs an inside post draw plus a smooth trip to take a picture. For the 1st time in 4 starts draws well enough to get a cozy trip. This filly went off at 5/2 in the Hambo Oaks, but recent form has been dull. This could be wake-up time at a juicy price.
5-Deja Blue (5/2)-Lost to #7 and was bet down to 3/5 last time. This will be the 2nd start after a trainer change, and the Burke barn has been cooking. Last time, there was 6 weeks between starts, now comes back in sequence, and could be sitting on a big try.
7-Kadena (9/2)-Upset the apple cart last week at 11.80-1, and should be a square price here. Gets a new set of hands in James MacDonald, as AMac sticks with Noel Daly and drives #2. The new pilot shouldn't hurt chances and has hit the board in 10 of 12 at Lex with 5 pictures.
