Northfield Park has a 15-race card, and the headliners are Ohio Fairs Championship races. The $1.00 middle Pick 4 starts in Race 8, it has an estimated $20,000 pool, and the sequence will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 8 (8:34 PM EDT)
4-Countonluna (5/2)-Likes to win taking 8 of 18 this year and has hit the board at Nfld in 4 of 7 with 2 pictures. Has raced on the Fair circuit and the last 12 starts have been on a "good" track. This is the 1st race this season at Nfld, and can win with a top of the stack trip or coming off cover.
7-I Bee Cream (3-1)-Does good work on a 1/2-mile oval winning 10 of 23 this year and has 1 win at Nlfd in 3 starts. Races frequently and this will be the 3rd start in 10 days. That might be cause for pause but probably not in this case.
Race 9 (8:56 PM EDT)
5-Catch The Express (3/2)-Was in tall cotton last time and drops into a comfortable spot to bounce back with a picture. Has won of 8 of 16 versus this type and Ronnie Wrenn should have in position to add to that total at a tiny price.
7-Believe In Tom (6-1)-Tom is no slouch, his Nfld record (6-3-2-1) is very good and has won 9 of 16 on the year. This is the field's leading money winner, draws outside and has not raced in 5 weeks. But should be a solid price and it's best to not overlook.
Race 10 (9:18 PM EDT)
1-Hangtighthoney L (8/5)-The freshman has won 10 of 17 but caught a bad draw for the BSS Championship on
10-4. Comes off a rough trip and finished 6th. Has a chance to make amends with this starting slot, won't offer any value but could go gate to wire.
6-Lynn Range (2-1)-Won its only start at Nfld on the engine. Came 2nd at Dela leaving from post 7 and that broke a 9-race Fair circuit win streak. Will have to bring its best race to win, and with a sharp steer should be in the mix at the wire.
Race 11 (9:40 PM EDT)
2-Odds On Chesapeake (7/2)-The Virgil Morgan Jr trainee finished 2nd in the Jugette and burned money at 1/9 at Dayton in the OSS Championship. Even with recent disappointments, it has banked over $420k and has won 9 of 13 this year. The 4-Prolific Fire came out of the pocket to beat this gal last time. Ronnie Wrenn steers and should get revenge tonight with a big bounce back effort.
