Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5, and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 7 (8:45 PM EST)
2-Sweethomealabama N (5-1)-This is an interesting race and there isn’t much gate speed. The team Stratton entry has beaten this kind before. My take is Jordan Stratton lands in the pocket and should be in the hunt at the wire.
5-All Class (3-1)-Was used hard off the gate, got the top but the trip took its toll and faded to come 3rd. Lightly raced veteran makes the 3rd start since 10-6. Jason Bartlett sticks, knows how to dance with this kind, and is a threat if dialed on high.
6-Aye Aye Captain N (8-1)-Flew home in 55.3 to get up by a head in last. The 10-time winner in 2025 steps up but still fits. Bent Holland knows how to push the button at the right time, and this race could set up for a closer.
Race 8 (9:05 PM EST)
2-Pinny Tiger A (7/5)-Has won 4 of 5 at Yonkers and is 2 for 2 this year. Ships in from PcD after going off at 1/9 and looked the part. The Engblom trainee should have his way with this field and Jason Bartlett won’t wait long to take control. Could get an easy lead and not look back.
Race 9 (9:25 PM EST)
2-Aardies Flash N (9/5)-Steps up a touch after winning as a big odds-on choice. This is the 4th start off the bench, Bartlett should have the pedal down and try to go gate to wire again. There could be a couple of others leaving and it may not be easy. But will respect chances of the Engblom entry winning right back.
8-Matai Phil N (15-1)-Rolled home in a swift 55.3 last time to come 2nd by a length at 49-1. It won’t be that price but should offer a big number. Brent Holland could be closer at the half than 12 lengths back. Using despite the post draw because the half could go in 57 seconds again or possibly faster.
Race 10 (9:45 PM EST)
2-Boiling Oar (2-1)-This is a tough race with a couple coming off wins moving up and are stuck outside or have a stale date. Then there are some like my 2 selections that are dropping and need to wake up. Father Time is catching up with the 11-year-old. But with this post draw Matt Kakaley has options and should be able to finish off the mile.
5-Brutally Handsome (5-1)-Team Stratton entry hasn't been in this soft in quite a while. Recent form versus better has been dull. But against this group could leave and land in a good early seat. Jordan Stratton can time one good move and roll by.
