Yonkers Raceway has a big 10-race card. The headliners come in Race 8, the Messenger Pace Final and Race 9 The MGM Trot Final. The Spot Plays below are in Race 5, Race 8, and Race 9. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 5 (8:05 PM EDT)
3-Elegant A (9/2)-Will look for a square price in a race where the best horse has the 8-hole. This lightly raced 8-year-old has hit the board in 3 of 5 this year with 1 picture. This will be the 1st time it will have 2 consecutive races at Yonkers in sequence since October. This is the 3rd start since 6-13 after racing only 3 times in May. Colin Kelly will be leaving, and should be no worse than in the pocket when the wings fold. Likes a top of the stack trip and should get it here.
Playing #3 Elegant A to Win
3-8-4
Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)
3-Al Papi (7/2)-The Burke pupil is 0-5 this season but take that with a grain of salt. This is a nice field but Odds On Mr Mamba isn't working tonight. Started the year on smaller ovals and wasn't raced aggressively off the gate. But in the last 2 races against NA Cup foes was used off the car but others were better down the lane. This race could shape up differently and Yannick Gingras can get a close-up seat around the opening turn. A pocket trip could be coming behind the program chalk #2 Fragment, and then Papi could be the best down the lane.
Playing #3 Al Papi to Win
3-2-7
Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)
4-Silverstein (3-1)-Matt Kakaley should take control early and make the most of starting from post 4. The program chalk Spencer Hanover has to deal with drawing post 8 and will need to rally down the lane most likely. Banking on this extra distance race to play out like most and favor front speed. If so, the edge goes to this 3-year-old who has won 2 of 3 since coming off the bench. The only loss came from post 9. Won its last start going gate to wire and could double up tonight.
Playing #4 Silverstein to Win
4-8-3
