Looks highly logical for a Keith Pederson barn that’s 9-16 in the exacta this season. The alternative is #7 Today’s Agenda for connections red-hot in recent weeks, but the distance appears to suit the rail horse more so. Don’t think you use them equal amounts in the pick 5, but on multiple tickets some back-up plans with the 7 could make sense.

Assiniboia Downs | Race 4

Speedy favorite #7 Get My Drift looks vulnerable with #3 Princess Aleska to duel and leaving from an outside draw. Her trainer Jerry Gourneau is just 3-27 at the meet over this 7-1/2 furlong trip with all runners, far below his barn standards. #1 Sherlyn Go Go should get a dream inside trip with first run at the speeds; #2 Peterson Landing is the deep shot from the back for a red-hot Michael Nault barn; and #4 Hardly Mischievous gets every chance to time it under Rachaad Knights, a jockey 5-13 at the trip this meet with a massive ROI.

Assiniboia Downs | Race 5

#7 Ceepeegee offers a strong presence back at this allowance optional claiming level after facing tougher last time and holding his ground. Trust him for Jared Brown barn that’s gotten hot of late – 4 for its last 10 after 4-for-83 at the meet prior. Keeps Antonio Whitehall, another plus. Trust this one more than 9-5 morning line chalk #3 Prime Suspect as that one goes through a negative barn change from 43% Steve Keplin Jr. to 12% Lisa Pruitt and runs for the third time in 29 days. I’ll toss the favorite while trying to build a better potential return. Jockey Kerron Khelawan has been riding lights-out lately and will give late-running #2 Buck Owens a chance to be the closer of concern late. The trip may be too short, but the price will be right to include on some secondary tickets.

Assiniboia Downs | Race 6

#2 Funkenstein has been hung wide in recent starts and should appreciate the ground-saving chance for his late rally. Claimed in each of his last 2 starts, Wendy Anderson goes back to get this one into her barn after winning with him in early August. Definitely in the mix for the pick 5, though more intra-race value comes via #5 Makena’s Joy, who found the right class level last time at 24-1 when second in a similar race. Kerron Khelawan should have this one rolling late. #8 Flying Tex has more tactical speed than the aforementioned pair when looking at his 2-turn form. He might be best as a closing sprinter (which is why I want to use a few here), but his local form leaves plenty to like.

Assiniboia Downs | Race 7

Sizable class droppers abound here, including #1 Shamayim, #3 Wrong Direction and #8 Oregon County. The deepest race in terms of quality options in the sequence could also be landed by the likes of #7 Sam’s Promise, knocking on the door in his last 2 vs. similar, or #9 Twolefttoload. I don’t think the latter will see the 20-1 morning line price, but he’s a Manitoba-bred who might have found the right open-company condition. This is for horses who haven’t won since March 1, and I like that he’s only had 3 starts this year and hasn’t been an exercise in repeated futility like the bulk of the field.
