Scioto Downs finishes off Breeders Crown Eliminations weekend with a 14-race card. This time the headliners are 3-year-olds battling in 6 Elims for the right to come back next weekend in the Finals. The Spot Plays are in Race 2, Race 5, and Race 8. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 2 (6:34 PM EST)
5-Women Layer (5-1)-This 5-year-old has done good work at ScD (13-6-3-2) and draws the choice post tonight. Hasn't had much luck with post draws and Yannick Gingras returns for his 2nd straight drive. Came a good 3rd two back against tough customers in Dayton and didn't get the best of trips. Went off at 1/9 and raced like it versus Open Handicap company in last and should offer a nice return here. Will look for a top of the stack trip and should be in play turning for the wire. Could take top honors and at this price is useable underneath in gimmicks as well.
5-6-2
Race 5 (7:52 PM EST)
2-Emoticon Legacy (7/2)-Came 2nd to Super Chapter in the Dayton Derby and has been consistently in the mix at the wire all season. The Luc Blais trainee is a perfect 1-1 at ScD and is the 2nd program chalk. Bob McClure, the usual pilot, gets the assignment and that can help. Should get a good stalking trip, and there is some gate speed. Will anticipate an honest pace and to be a main player.
2-6-3
Race 8 (9:10 PM EST)
4-Sweet Luvin Lou (4-1)-Lou is a very good 3-year-old who turns into an even better colt when the post draw gods smile. Lands the best post tonight, and there is no reason to think Scott Zeron won't work an effective trip. Can flash top gate speed and should be racing near the top of the stack. The fractions will be sizzling and could post an upset if in striking range at the head of the stretch. Finished 2nd in the past 2 races and had post 10 the last time. Ships in from the Red Mile, goes back on Lasix and could be sitting on a big try.
4-5-7
