Del Mar’s opening day of the Fall Meet this Friday has already drawn a lot of attention. The featured $100,000 Let It Ride Stakes is part of a Late Pick 4 wager than encompasses 41 entrants and evenly-matched fields. The 50-cent wager is worth playing, with a potential big payout for those holding a winning ticket.
Del Mar, Race 5 (5:30 EST)
MAKENARITA produced the top speed figure of her career to win off the claim and improve to 9/3-3-2 at one mile. She took aim at the stubborn 2-1 pace setter on the final turn, braced for a late stretch challenger on her outside and was resilient in victory. THERESASILVERLININ, who beat the top one at Del Mar three months ago, figures up close throughout at a distance which she finished first or second nine times in 10 starts. PERFECT LIFE ‘reeled in’ THERESASILVERLININ in a five-horse field with a career-best 71 Beyer and tries the same sprint-to-route approach for the rematch.
Del Mar, Race6 (6:00 p.m. EST)
DEUCARI jumps right into stakes company off a smashing debut run at 6F on the turf. Keen to go on from the outset, he angled 3-wide off the dueling leaders and powered away from the 2-to-5 favorite and others with a 90 Beyer. He continued strong on the gallop out, no surprise considering his sire, Collected (8-15, $2.9 million), won the Grade 1 Pacific Classic on the Del Mar main track at 1-1/4 miles and his dam, Rachel Wall, was a stakes-winning turf router. He is today’s solo play in the Pick 4.
Del Mar, Race 7 (6:30 p.m. EST)
MISCHIEVOUS BEV is strictly the one to beat after she romped to a 6F maiden win at Santa Anita, ran third in a triple ‘key’ follow-up at this level, then ran third again off a wide trip as the favorite from post 13. MAGIC JEWEL has speed, gave way readily chasing runaway winner Separator (82 Beyer) but can’t be discounted in her second start in the Sadler barn. FREYA was claimed for $25,000 three starts ago from her lone start on the Del Mar main track. She was bumped at the break and chased the 11-1 upsetter to finish third on a day when front-end types dominated.
Del Mar, Race8 (7:00 p.m. EST)
Taking no chances in this crowded, $80,000 optional claimer on the turf for California breds. With room to spare on the ticket, hit the ‘ALL’ button in the final leg.
