Al Cimaglia Handicaps Saturday's Cal Expo $50K Guar. Pick 4

by Al Cimaglia

April 7, 2018

Tonight's main event at Cal Expo rolls in Race 2 as 3-year-old fillies battle for a $6,500 purse in California Sire Stakes action. The 0.20 Pick 4 with a $50,000 guaranteed pool begins in Race 8 and will be my focus.

Last night at the Big M my posted Pick 4 failed in the second leg as the (3/4/1,10/4) combination paid $84.00 on a 0.50 wager.

The driver with the hottest hands at Cal Expo on Friday was Mooney Svendsen with two winners. Trainer Gordon Graham led all conditioners with two trips to the winner's circle.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 8
1-Musician-Racing well and now finally draws inside, looks like a major player.
2-Regina Beach-Plano's choice drops into a more comfortable spot and should be in the hunt.
3-Western Fortune-Made a rare break in last and will overlook, fits with these.
5-Allamerican Solo-Lightly raced 13 yr.-old won in last and steps up, will string along at a square price.

Race 9
1-Dontdoubtthelakers-Still looking for 1st win of season, now drops and can compete at 10-1 in the ML.
2-Bettor In The Bank-Big driver change as Kennedy takes a spin, will bite at 7-1 in the ML.
3-Blue Star Maverick-Price shot drops and moves inside. This is could be a spot where Goulet pops at a big price.
8-Mint To Cruise-3rd start off the claim for Plano, will need best from this spot but has beat better.

Race 10
3-Oh Yeah-In form and steps up, looks to be the main threat to Lincoln.
5-Lincoln-Camera shy 7-yr-old won't get many better chances than tonight.

Race 11
2-Window Wiper-Wiseman should be able to work an effective trip from this spot.
3-La Madawna De Rosa-Slow starter flew home in last, short field may help but will need a decent pace.
4-Lucky Jewel-Plano's choice over #6 drops into a more comfortable spot.

0.20 Pick 4
1,2,3,5/1,2,3,8/3,5/2,3,4
Total Bet=$19.20
