Today at the Meadows in Race 11, Foiled Again the richest standardbred of all-time tries for win #100. It certainly seems like this could be the time to get the milestone out of the way as the stars appear to be in-line.
Foiled Again is trained by Ron Burke who has achieved more wins than any other standardbred trainer. In the sulky this afternoon will be Dave Palone who has won more races than any other driver in the history of the sport. On top of that it looks like this is a field Foiled Again should handle with a top effort.
It's fitting for Foiled Again to win #100 at the Meadows. If things go according to plan Foiled Again will end his career with a race at the Meadows on December 31st. That should be some New Year's Eve retirement party for the connections who purchased the gelding at the age of four for $60,000.
The Meadows has a special Belmont day start time of 11:25AM ET. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 11
1-Dafinaty (20-1)-Looks like 7-year-old is overmatched and may not outrun his odds.
2-Foiled Again (2-1)-3rd start off a rest and last was better. Palone should get on the engine and not look back. The champ has hit the board in 7 of 10 tries at this track. This is probably the best chance for #100 this year.
3-Dew N Doughnuts (6-1)-Winless in '18 but has been facing better and has gate speed to spice up exotics.
4-Liberal (10-1)-Another having a rough year and will need to step it up to hit the board.
5-The Pepperoni Kid (12-1)-4th start in new barn and last was better but has been struggling at this level.
6-Bilbo Hanover (3-1)-Dropper is camera shy but looks like a player compared to most.
7-Lucky Millionaire (20-1)-Shouldn't be a threat, looks overmatched.
8-Honeemoon Suite (12-1)-Last start was 4/14, comes off 2 qualifiers, but should have trouble competing today.
9-E Street Plan (4-1)-Could be a threat to spoil the party if blasts out and lands in 2-hole, the trip is key.
$20 Exacta 2/6,9=$40
