Hawthorne begins the weekend with a competitive 10-race card. The headliners are 2-year-old colts and gelding pacers battling in two divisions of the Incredible Finale-Night of Champions Leg 1. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 sequence starts in Race 7 and has a $15,000 guaranteed pool.
On Thursday the driver with the hottest hands was Casey Leonard with four trips to the winner's circle. On the 10-race card, there wasn't a trainer who collected more than one win.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 7
1-Spirit O'Mar-Qualified well after having breaking issues. Will use even from the rail, has speed and should be a square price.
4-Dr Spengler-Has been handled carefully but figuring now is the time to dial on high and should be a price.
8-Her-B's Foxy Lady-Nice effort in last, if pace is quicker tonight it could be enough to pose for a picture.
9-Threeupthreedown-Looking for better after a dull effort in 1st start local start, was facing better at HoP.
Race 8
2-Another Bettor-Has had some gaps in starts but if HoP invader is ready he fits for Team Wilfong.
3-One More Trick-Winner of 3 straight should get a great trip and could keep heading towards the winner's circle.
8-Skway Fireball-Back to a better level to shine but the post is a challenge, needs a good early seat.
Race 9
2-After Market-Usually falls short but at this level is tough to leave out.
5-Who Do You Like-Makes 1st start for Husted barn who has been doing well, will use at 9/1 in the ML.
7-Atomic Rei-Skimmed the rail to post a win in 1st start for Roth, will string a long and look for a good steer from Warren.
8-J K Hall-Drops out of $8K claimers, camera shy but will respect Team Leonard even from this post.
Race 10
8-Northern Angle-Leonard's choice may get towed up by #9 and roll by late.
9-Somestarsomewhere-Takes a good step down and has the speed to beat this field as long the trip is decent.
0.50 Late Pick 4
1,4,8,9/2,3,8/2,5,7,8/8,9
Total Bet=$48
