The headliners at Woodbine Mohawk Park tonight are 2-year-old fillies competing in Ontario Sire Stakes Gold action. The 0.20 Early Pick 4 has a $50,000 guaranteed pool, it will begin in Race 4 and will be my focus.
On Thursday night at Mohawk drivers James MacDonald and Jonathan Drury were the leading pilots with two victories each. Trainer Mark Steacy was the leading conditioner with two trips to the winner's circle.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 4
2-Color Envy-Taking on older but gets a nice starting spot, should be a square price and with the right trip can fly home.
4-Kloof Street-Looking for 1st win of the year but last was a sharp effort and could be sitting on a big try.
5-Cenalta Call Girl-Program chalk looks the part with Roy, should be in the hunt and a fast pace would help.
Race 5
1-Sporty Song-Back to the big track after a break at Grand River. A return to 7/10 performance could be good enough.
3-Undefiable-Raced from behind in last and closed well, but may seek a better seat and stay close to #1.
7-My Baby Gal-56.3 back half in qualifier, is bred to be a good one and could win debut at a square price.
Race 6
1-Witches N Angels-Tries the big track and will respect connections in a wide open affair.
3-Hortop Temper-Taking a swing this gal will mind her manners and have enough speed to upset this field.
5-Petro Hall-ML chalk looks to be in the mix and might be able to finish off this mile in 3rd career start.
6-Class Angel-Got on the engine and stayed on stride. At 8-1 in the ML will use as another step forward puts her in the hunt.
8-HP Bruxelles-Needs to mind manners but came the last 1/2 in .57 in qualifier and Roy may keep in striking range.
Race 7
1-Black Jack Pat-Came close in last after being off 13 days, looking for better here and should like the company.
2-Gottalovemyshadow-Gets post relief and if Hudon can work a trip should be a threat for top honors.
