Friday, September 21: Hoosier Park Grand Circuit Analysis

by Al Cimaglia

September 21, 2018

On Friday Grand Circuit stars invade Hoosier Park to do battle in five competitive stake races. On the night over $1.4 million in purses will be on the line for the 14-race card.

On Thursday at Delaware if my top three picks in each race were bet as a $2 exacta box the positive return was $138. Maybe  someone was lucky enough to use my top three selections in a trifecta box in Race 19, as that returned a healthy $1,134.20 on a $2 bet. Hopefully there will be some meaningful selections on tonight's Hoosier card.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 - The Muscle Mass - Purse $236,000

2-Measuredoerfection (10-1) - If track is fast Burke trainee is worth a swing, racing well and post draw should help.

4-Starita (3-1) - In fine form and has the speed to get on the engine and not look back.

8-Woodside Charm (6/5) - A perfect 4-4 but will look to beat from the outside on this surface.

Race 8 - The Jenna Beach Boy - Purse $155,000

4-Always A Prince (7/5) - Is 14 of 17 and at her home track, rates a slight edge over #6.

6-Jimmy Freight (6/5) - If Jimmy had a race over this oval he would have been on top, should be dangerous.

5-Rockinbeach (5-1) - No slouch but local connections will need some racing luck to finish at the top of the ticket.

Race 9 - The Moni Maker - Purse $172,000

10-Manchego (6/5) - Post draw makes this more interesting but is the best horse and should be dangerous.

2-Custom Cantab (5-1) - HoP specialist is 9 of 11 and could surprise if #10 has a poor trip or doesn't take to track.

3-Meadow Brook Grace (6-1) - Local hope could trip out, stay close and use one big brush to be the upsetter.

Race 11 - Hoosier Park Pacing Derby - Purse $177,000

1-Split The House (6-1) - Comes off a big win, likes HoP and should be a square price. Rates an edge from the rail.

3-McWicked (2-1) - Should be rolling late and could get a win here, a hot pace would help chances.

6-Lazarus N (9/5) - May fire out and get the top, if so chances may improve, but at this price will try to beat.

Race 12 The Ceasars Trotting Classic - Purse $200,000

8-Homicide Hunter (5-1) - Looks primed for a big race, likes the track and D. Miller will keep in contention.

3-Crazy Wow (7/2) - Dangerous with a trip as shown in the Maple Leaf, should make most of a good post draw.

9-Marion Marauder (5/2) - As honest as they come and should be rolling late, but from this post will need some luck.
