Klaravich Stables' Newspaperofrecord ($3.20) gave Chad Brown his fifth overall Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf victory – and his fourth in five years – with a powerful 6 ¾ length score in the race’s 11th running on Friday, November 2 at Churchill Downs.
Newspaperofrecord broke sharply and assumed the early lead with Natalma Stakes winner, La Pelosa, just behind. Concrete Rose made a brief run approaching the top of the stretch but Newspaperofrecord quickly kicked clear at the top of the lane. Soon thereafter, the question was not whether she would win but how many lengths she would win by.
East, trained by Kevin Ryan, rallied to finish second a neck ahead of Stellar Agent in third. From there it was three-quarters of a length back to Just Wonderful in fourth and another half-length to Varenka in fifth.
Running time for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, over a course listed yielding, was 1:39.00.
