Gulfstream Park’s racing calendar shifted from Wednesday week openers to Thursday last week, and will continue with a 4-day, Thursday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday, schedule … Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. reported that Gulfstream-based Ny Traffic will ship to Saratoga to train for the Kentucky Derby instead of returning to South Florida after Saturday’s Grade 1 Haskell nose runner-up to Authentic. There, he’ll join stablemate Tonalist’s Shape, whom Joseph said will race blinkers-off for the Kentucky Oaks.

There were three winning tickets in the Friday, July 24 Stronach 5 each worth $41,725.70.
The Stronach 5 Pick 5 for July 24 will be comprised of the following races (all times Eastern):
Leg A – Laurel Park Race 6 with an approximate post time of 3:23
Leg B – Gulfstream Park Race 8 with and approximate post time of 3:40
Leg C – Laurel Park Race 7 with an approximate post time of 3:59
Leg D – Gulfstream Park Race 9 with an approximate post time of 4:14
Leg E – Laurel Park Race 8 with an approximate post time of 4:33
Trends Last Week:
--Trainer Georgina Baxter had a 7: 3-0-2 record, including 5: 2-0-2 in turf sprints. She sent out 5 runners at 9-5 or less odds, offering no surprises.
--Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. was 11: 3-3-1 on the week with $9, $13 and $23 winners. He had only 2 runners under 7-2 odds all week, rare for his barn, and both lost.
--Trainer Juan Carlos Avila posted a 6: 2-1-1 record (all entered for claiming tags), including an 8-1 winner.
--Trainer Lester Barbazon III won with both starters last week, 15-1 and 44-1 bombers, July 15 and 18 in dirt sprints.
--Jockey Marcos Meneses was on point at 21: 5-4-1 (including a $1.61 ROI for every $1 bet). His winners paid $9, $10, $11, $13 and $23. When Meneses paired with trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., they were 5: 3-1-1.
--Jockey Miguel Vasquez won for 6 different trainers in a 28: 6-3-5 week. He added $12, $13 and $16 winners to go along with 3 favorites.
--Jockey Hector Berrios lit the tote with $22 and $36 winners while posting an 18: 4-3-3 mark. His $2.02 ROI for every $1 bet didn’t include 2 runner-ups at 9-1 and third-place efforts with 10-1 and 23-1 shots.
--Last week’s 5 maiden special weight races produced 15-1, 18-1 and 35-1 upsets. The 10 maiden dirt races at any class level produced an average winner of nearly 14-1 odds.
