Monday August 03: Woodbine Mohawk Park Late Pick 5 Analysis

by Al Cimaglia

August 3, 2020

Tonight, Woodbine Mohawk Park has 11-races set to go with the 0.20 Late Pick 5 starting in Race 6. The sequence has a 15% takeout and will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

2-Big Rich (2-1)-Was used hard off the gate from the 7-hole in last, did get on the engine but lost the race by a head. Should be tighter tonight, was off 3-weeks before that start and this is a very soft spot. Should have no excuse.
8-Perfetto (9/2)-Comes off an impressive win and now bumps up but still fits. Has the gate speed to get a close-up seat and has beaten better than this in the past. Has won 10 of 34 here and will use at a square price as #2 can be camera shy.

Race 7

2-Lefkada (8-1)-Has hit the board in 11 of 18 starts at Wbsb and should be nice price. Does show 2 breaks in the last 7 months, both at Grand River so will toss last. Last win here came on 12/20 and that was with Roy, who is back tonight.
4-HP Bruxelles (5/2)-Filion returns to take the lines and that should help. Not sure if simply got tired in the last few yards or the driver wasn't alert but lost a very tight photo. Program chalk is in a nice spot to make amends.

Race 8

1-Cheapskate Hanover (8-1)-Price shot picked up a check in 1st race back after the restart and paced the back half in 54.4. Team Cullen trainee can make some noise here. Does like to win, 20 of 93 lifetime and has won 8 of 27 at Mohawk.
2-Jaydens Place (8-1)-Another who can put some juice in the Pick 5 payout. Does get a ++ driver change with McNair back aboard. Should be put in play from the start and could surprise with a nice move down the lane.
6-Ocenaview Magnum (3-1)-Comes off a win versus Preferred company at GeoD and fits well with this field. Roy drives for Moreau, an encore could be in the cards.
7-Julerica (8/5)-Scorched the field from the 8-hole at this class last week and went off a 1/2. Was claimed in last and Filion will be between the pipes as 8-year-old looks for 3rd straight picture. Will respect but will look to others for more value.

Race 9

3-Dunbar Hall (7/2)-Drops again after fading down the lane after a difficult journey. Best to respect in this spot, could be tighter and better. Was off 3 weeks before last start and comes back within a week this time.
6-Buzz (4-1)-Drops to a spot to shine. Drury is back, he can put on the engine and Buzz knows how to win there. Not really any gate speed inside and comes back to race within a week. Could be sitting on a big try.

Race 10

1-White Tiger (8-1)-JMac is out injured, maybe Filion will get the steer? Drops to good spot in 3rd start off the break after starting slowly in previous 2 races. This could be go time and may look to race on the engine or the 2-hole.
4-Treasured Tee (5/2)-Moreau trainee is still the morning line favorite despite coming off a sick scratch and not racing since 6/29. Has only raced 20 times the past 2 years, but has a big shot if fires hot off the bench.
5-Mister Magic (4-1)-Last 4 lines are a win, a break, a win, a break and that sequence can hold true if minds manners. Kadabra 5-year-old knows how to win going 15 of 44 past 2 years and has won 16 of 55 for 29% at Wbsb.
