The Sunday night 11-race card at Hawthorne Racecourse will feature the 0.50 Late Pick 4. The sequence has a 15% takeout plus a $25,000 guaranteed pool and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 9

2-Bobcat Bay (9/2)-Last race was in the slop from post 10 and previous try was from the 9-hole, so should relish the post relief. Could be forwardly placed from the start. Bates can work a ground saving trip and has the speed to take a picture.
3-Me Dock JohnsonIII (7-1)-This is another who has been trying hard and now gets an inside post draw. Paced the back half in 56.4 last week and 5-year-old could finally post a win in Stickney in 13th try.

Race10

1-Stright Up Jazz (12-1)-Will take a swing with a Springfield shipper who qualified nicely there. That angle has worked at this meet and at 12-1 in the morning line the risk reward is there in a race without a standout.
3-Martha Max (6/5)-Scioto invader qualified here and was staked there. Coming back now is usually not a good a thing and ScD performances were dull. Shows enough speed to be a player here but others need to be used.
8-Bootsy Bombay (30-1)-Another who has been training in Springfield, wasn't Wilfong's choice, he picked the 10. Did pace the 2nd half in 57.4 and qualified just 5 days ago. Using at a price and hoping Warren can work a nice trip.

Race 11

1-Scorecard Dandy (5/2)-Stayed inside on a sloppy track and broke maiden on 8/2. Did pace the 2nd half in 57.3 and can get a similar trip here.
4-Yummy Candy (4-1)-3-year-old filly is 0-9 lifetime and 0-6 at Haw and isn't racing poorly but has had excuses. Bates needs to work a nice trip. That should be easier from a good post and fits with this crew.
10-Sherri's Babe (25-1)-Left in a hurry from the 8-hole in the slop and went to the half in .55 last week but faded down the lane. Did show decent speed in qualifier. Maybe Robbins can rate this 3-year-old and work a good journey to surprise at a price.

Race 12

4-Cassie's Marie's T T (4-1)-Closed nicely on a sloppy track in 1st local start to cash a 2nd place check. Wilfong could be more aggressive tonight and get into better striking range at the top of the lane.
5-Trendy H (10-1)-Will toss last, had broken equipment and raced well in previous 2 starts at this level. Has been camera shy but only win did come here and is usually in the hunt hitting the board in 6 of 9 starts at Haw.
6-Johnny's Gal June (5-1)-Drops to the same level as last win and should be a player with a smooth trip.
7-Lookintomyeyes (5-1)-Has had excuses in last 2 and now Bates is back between the pipes. Has been competitive this year finishing in the money in 9 of 12. Should be a square price and likes the track only missing the board once in 7 starts.
