Harness Highlights: Dunn In Driver's Seat For Breeders Crown

October 26, 2020

Dexter Dunn burst onto the North America harness racing scene in 2019 when his drives earned $12 million in purses, two Breeders Crown championships and Driver of the Year accolades.

He heads into this weekend’s Breeders Crown at Hoosier Park with a chance to out-do himself. Dunn will have plenty of firepower at his fingertips when 12 championship races are contested Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31, with more than $6 million on the line. Dunn already leads North America with more than $8 million in purses this year.

Dunn will pilot elimination winners Party Girl Hill (13-for-13) in the $500,000 Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Filly Pace, track record-setter Amigo Volo in the $500,000 3YO Colt Trot and multimillionaire Bettor’s Wish in the $500,000 Open Pace. He guided Kissin In The Sand to a narrow victory over reigning Horse of the Year Shartin N in the Open Mare Pace elimination and Spoiled Princess to victory in the final tune-up for the $500,000 3YO Filly Trot.

Hall of Famer David Miller could move up from fifth all-time in Breeders Crown wins (24) with live drives that include unbeaten freshman pacer Perfect Sting, all-age track record-setter Cattlewash in the 3YO Colt Pace and 92-1 elimination upsetter Continualous in the 2YO Filly Pace.

Trainer Nancy Takter appears primed for a big weekend, too. She handles the aforementioned Kissin In The Sand and Spoiled Princess, as well as sophomore colt pacer Tall Dark Stranger, the top-ranked Standardbred in the national Top 10 poll, and elimination winner JK Alwaysbalady in the 2YO Filly Pace.

Takter has five entrants in Friday’s 2-year-old championships, with each carrying a $600,000 purse. She will have at least that many when entries are completed for Saturday’s card. Post time both days is 6 p.m. EST.
