The Late Pick 4 Sunday at Golden Gate Fields is an attractive one, highlighted by the $75,000 El Dorado Shooter Stakes at six furlongs on the Tapeta surface.
A field of five will go postward in the El Dorado Shooter, with Baja Sur as the 8-5 favorite. The race is carded as the seventh, the second in the late sequence.
Here’s a look at the Late Pick 4, along with a $54 suggested play:
Race 6 (6:15 p.m. ET, maidens).
SEVEN CHARMS was outrun on debut at Del Mar, gets additional distance and likely will move way up in the change of venue.
MULHOLLAND HIGHWAY weakened to fifth at Santa Anita and is another that should improve with the trip up the coast. Bred to run a long ways and was second at Golden Gate two races back. He’s the most likely to improve.
FRAVEL was on the board in his last three – all over this course – and looks like he’s all set for the nine furlongs. Long overdue to get the maiden win.
Race 7 (6:45 p.m. ET, El Dorado Shooter Stakes)
ULTIMATE BANGO just missed by a head in the California Flag Stakes on turf at Santa Anita, and horses with similar running lines on turf do well on Tapeta. His stakes placing was his first start for Mark Blatt and the sprinter be tough to hold off.
SQUARE DEAL won two of his last three and is returning to the best form he’s seen since winning stakes races last year. Stopped the timer in 1:08 3-5 last out and it will take a top-notch effort to beat him.
BAJA SUR finished with interest last time vs. similar and looks like a legit late threat.
Race 8 (7:15 p.m. ET, starter allowance)
BARBIERE could be the best hope for a price here. He improved position to third at the end of six furlongs last time and has had a good effort in two of his last three.
LET’S REJOYCE was second and third in fast races in his last two and can force the issue from the start.
CIRCUS ACT goes well when he gets on the front end and has a good chance at it here. Much improved over his last three.
OUR BOLD PRINCE turns back from a mile and could be flying at the end of this. Ran on well the last time he was at this distance and lost by a head. Gets a good pace setup.
Race 9 (7:45 p.m., ET, claiming)
SIX POINT RACK won two in a row during the summer, tried much better to no avail lately and takes a sizable class drop. Can wake up here.
PERFECT COME BACK came up employ in his first in 11 months and has a great chance to improve as he takes a step down the claiming ladder. Can be in the mix throughout.
MANY ROSES has exceptional speed and comes in off a race against much better. He gave way in that one but the class drop should help him here.
