September 18: Mohawk Harness Analysis

by Al Cimaglia

September 18, 2017

After a very strong card on Saturday, Mohawk returns tonight with the Wellwood Memorial Trot, a $400,000 Grand Circuit headliner. Some of the finest 2-year-old trotters in North America will square-off as ten colts and geldings are slated to march in Race 7.

Jimmy Takter will have a trio of trainees competing, #3-Maxus, #5-Samo Different Day and program favorite #7-You Know You Do. Benoit Baillargeon has conditioned #4-Alarm Detector, the 2nd morning line chalk for the biggest race of his brief career.  Another successful local trainer, Amy MacDonald sends out the star of her stable #9-Law Maker and #1-Cruising in Style.

Comments and selections below for the 0.50 Late Pick 4 are based on a fast track.

Race 7 - Wellwood Memorial Trot Final-Purse $400,000

3 - Maxus - Gets post relief after winning elim handily. Has competed well when given a decent trip and is 8-1 in the ML.

4 - Alarm Detector - Has been the model of consistency, appears to be a clean journey away from the winner's circle.

7 - You Know You Do - 7/5 ML favorite deserves respect but starts further outside than usual, wondering how trip will play out.

9 - Law Maker - Looking for exacta value, and not a stretch to use #9. Very consistent, handy horse has good gate speed.

Race 8

3 - Swan For Dee - This will be the 4th start since claimed and last 2 were better, maybe trainer has found the key.

5 - Notrouble Dechafra - Will respect winner of last 2 but now moves to a mid-pack post. Thinking Ryan will put into the mix.

7 - Deuce Deuce Deuce - Has been facing better and this is 2nd start since being freshened up. Could be sitting on a big try.

8 - Profound Patience - Was bet in last but was too far back at the half. A more aggressive drive might be in the cards.

Race 9

4 - Shower Play - 3 wins in last 5, and 2 loses were both by a neck. Winner of last 2 and can make it 3 in a row tonight.

10 - Cardiff - Missed some time and faded in last. 2nd chalk drops from OSS Gold, may get the top or good striking position.

Race 10

2 - Trisun - Racing well and comes off a sharp win at this class. Winner of 7 of 22 this year deserves respect.

3 - Aphro Star - 3rd start since claim and 3rd start on lasix, in the hunt if minds manners.

5 - Jack Rackham - Cullen between the pipes and company suits. Might get the top and not look back.

10 - The Big Beast - Has been racing well and McNair can work a trip from this post. Could win at a square price.
