Local leading jockey Alexander Crispin was named a finalist for the 2020 Eclipse Award as the nation’s top apprentice jockey. The award winners will be announced Jan. 28, and Crispin will try to become the 12th Maryland-based rider to take leading apprentice in the honor’s 47-year history … The Rainbow 6 has a $8,916 carryover heading into this racing week, Friday through Sunday ... Laurel Park fans will have a vested home interest in Saturday’s $3 million Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park as locally based Pimlico Special winner Harpers First Ride takes the national stage … Nominations for Laurel’s next big stakes weekend, Feb. 13, will close a week from Saturday on Jan. 30.

Horseplayers using the 1/ST BET app saw the most success with these 3 of the 52 handicapping filters for Laurel, each posting at least 23% winners and a flat-bet profit. Speed factors weren’t as dominant last week as recent weeks, perhaps due to the quality stakes program offered Saturday.

-- Trainer Cal Lynch went 2-for-2 in limited bids, smashing the tote with $54 and $10 winners. Both came Jan. 15 in the claiming ranks.
-- Trainer Keiron Magee was 5: 2-0-2, including 2-for-2 in 2-turn route races. Those winners featured a $29 bopper, while Magee also had a 31-1 shot light the trifecta.

-- Hot jockey Alexander Crispin hit is first protracted cold streak of the fall-winter at Laurel, going 0-for-21 last week after a smashing 41% run the previous 2 weeks.
-- Jockey Sheldon Russell was a razor-sharp 17: 6-5-2 on the week. That’s 35% wins, 65% in the exacta and a $1.62 ROI for every $1 bet.
