Congratulations to Laurel-based rider Alexander Crispin, honored last Thursday with the Eclipse Award as the nation’s top apprentice jockey … Nominations have closed for the Feb. 13 $900,000 Winter Sprintfest 6-stakes program at Laurel. Among those stakes stars on the various lists include Eres Tu, Sharp Star, Hello Beautiful, Majestic Dunhill, Mischievous Alex, Kenny Had a Notion and Street Lute.

1/ST BET Top Factors Last Week:

Horseplayers using the 1/ST BET app saw the most success with these 3 of the 52 handicapping filters for Laurel, each posting at least 27% wins and a flat-bet profit. Speed factors remained at the head of the list again this past week as they have for much of the past few months.

Trends Last Week

-- Trainer Kelly Rubley was 2: 2-0-0 on the shortened 2-day race week, scoring $6 and $16 victories in claiming routes at 1 mile and 1-1/16 miles. The barn had been 0-31 since Nov. 28 at Laurel.

-- Trainer Jerry Robb went 4: 2-0-0 as the only other barn to double up wins, posting both victories ($6, $14) with jockey Xavier Perez.

-- Trainer Anthony Aguirre showed signs of a possible break-out to come with a 4: 0-0-3 mark, including 9-1 and 10-1 shots on the board. The barn is 8-11 in the money at Laurel since the start of December without a victory.

-- Jockey Julien Pimentel made the most of limited mounts, going 2-2, with $7 and $16 winners, both in routes.

-- Favorites are 20: 9-3-2 in claiming races over the past 2 weeks (45% wins).
