Half of Gulfstream Park’s Late Pick 4 on Saturday looks fairly easy to figure. The other two races … well those are a different story.

The class-dropping Mitos Y Leyendas should be able to wreak havoc in the 10th race, and Judiths Nathan and Warranted appear to have very good chances in the 12th, but the two other races are far from cut and dried. The 9th and 11th are the spread races, with seven horses on the ticket in the 9th and six names on the card in the 11th.  The result is a $42 ticket on 50-cent wagers.

Mitos Y Leyendas is in for a $6,250 tag, which is a far cry from the levels at which he’s competed for a couple of years now. The 5-year-old gelding, racing for trainer Tamara Levy, has won 10 of 28 career starts and is 9 of 21 at Gulfstream. He’s been a stalwart in optional claiming races and has knocked heads with the likes of Harryhee, McFly and the hard-trying Blings Express on several occasions. Anything remotely close to his best should be good enough for him to get off the schneid after six unsuccessful trips this year. The class drop likely will wake him out of his funk, and jockey Edgard Zayas has the riding style to get him on or close to the front end.

The finale is a tough one as you either take a couple or take the whole works. Maidens racing for a $10,000 going a mile tend to make up that kind of challenge, and Judiths Nathan and Warranted look well spotted. Judiths Nathan just missed graduation by a neck last time. That came over a sloppy track, and there’s a chance for similar footing at Friday’s card ended as rain hit the Hallandale area.

Warranted improved to 5th at this level last time and ran as if he is seeking more ground. He improved going 6.5 furlongs and should be able to get into full stride in this one.
