Pompano Park has a 13-race card on tap with a pair of Pick 4 sequences. They both have a $20,000 guaranteed pool with a 12% takeout. My focus will be on the 0.50 Late Pick 4 which begins in Race 10.
On Sunday's 8-race card no driver or trainer had more than one winning effort.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 10
1-Darling's Dragon (6-1)-Just missed in last after taking advantage of a hot pace to close into and should offer a solid price. Trip dependent DuPont trainee could land in the pocket or get the point and chances for success go up with this post.
3-Saulsbrook Deputy (7/2)-The Deputy has cashed checks versus this kind but doesn't seem to always give a 100% effort. But Boyd can work a cozy trip from here and there aren't any standouts in this field.
6-LA Rockin Sampson (6-1)-Winner in 4 of 15 starts this year and 11 of 37 at the Pomp drops to a better level for success. Has the gate speed to be forwardly placed and should offer a fair price.
7-Mach West (9/2)-This is Hennessey's choice over #4 and recent efforts have been dull but does fit well with this group. Best to respect in a race without much form.
Race 11
2-Savannah Slew (8-1)-This is only the 3rd start for this 3-year-old who was Boyd's pick over #7. Showed improvement in last and has a chance at a picture if upswing continues.
5-Retirement Income (7/5)-Ohio invader has not seen real action since 11-10 and had an even effort in a 4-12 qualifier at the Pomp. Makes season debut after hitting the board in 6 of 12 starts with 2 wins. Not loving the 7/5 morning line but is a threat and should like the company.
6-Get To The Pointe (5/2)-Makes 3rd start off the bench and could be tight enough to not flatten out down the lane.
Appears to have the speed to take a picture and might be driven more aggressively in this spot.
Race 12
1-Mr Wisconsin (2-1)-A $20,000 purchase on 11-18 makes the 1st start for new connections. Has faced tougher at HoP and should relish this company but is only 1-17 lifetime. Qualified okay and this is a soft spot for its 1st race since 11-4.
4-Joxter (3/2)-Team Daley doesn't start many at the Pomp but they are usually ready to go. Chapter 7 three-year- old will be a very short price and looks like the one to beat.
7-Meadowbrook Chip (20-1)-Has struggled this year but now faces easier. Could be overlooked at the windows and is worth a swing at the morning line odds. Has the speed but needs to mind manners.
Race 13
4-Johnny Chip (5-1)-Tossing last with the trainer steering from the 8 hole. Drops to a good spot to cash a big check. Has a post edge on the main foe and the gate speed to be put in play early.
9-Double Metal (3-1)-Betting Line 3-year-old won its 2nd straight in 152.1 and is back at the same class. This was Hennessey's choice over the 3-5-8 and it's best to respect. Came off cover in last after a .55 opening half. Could work the same script tonight, if the 1st half is lively.
