Friday, April 23: Frank Carulli's Stronach 5 Ticket

by Frank Carulli

April 22, 2021

LEG A // PIMLICO // RACE 8 (4:16PM ET) // MAIDEN CLAIMING // 6 FURLONGS (DIRT)

Plenty of win-early pedigree in this field, as five entrants are by graded stakes-winning 2-year-olds. EDIE MEENY MINY MO gets top billing, as her dam was also productive in her first year of racing, going 3-for-4 and winning the Maryland Juvenile Fillies championship. OXBOW CREEK and MOUNTAIN LILLY worked a pair of bullets in company at Pimlico, so use one or both halves of the entry. DESPEIGHT ALL ODDS finished in the money in her last three 6F starts at Aqueduct and could move forward for high-percentage new barn.

LEG B // PIMLICO // RACE 9 (4:48PM ET) // CLAIMING // 1 1/16 MILES (DIRT)

AMERICAN FLEET is the only entrant to run since March 6, posting back-to-back wins at Park by a combined 17 lengths. LUXERO gets plenty of pace to rally into and can't be discounted on the class hike for a sharp claim barn. OMATI controlled the pace and won off a longer layoff than this at the distance when last seen.

LEG C // GULFSTREAM // RACE 8 (4:51PM ET) // CLAIMING // 1 MILE (TURF)

PROLIFERATE is consistent, should benefit from his comeback try off a year layoff, and projects an ideal stalking trip. PIONEER MAN ran second to favored Noble Indy (6-24, $866k) on soft turf and enters a 15-percent claim barn. FIG JELLY raced close-up and lost in photo finishes in two recent starts at one mile.

LEG D // SANTA ANITA // RACE 3 (5:09PM ET) // OPTIONAL CLAIMING // 6 1/2 FURLONGS (TURF)

ANOTHER EDDIE has progressed steadily, finishing a clear second to a runaway two back, then graduating in a 12-horse field on the turf. WESTWARD BREEZE (12-1) is a live longshot. She was visually impressive in a debut grass sprint victory in the fall and deserves a second look after she faded in a comeback long sprint with first-time Lasix.

LEG E // GOLDEN GATE // RACE 3 (5:27PM ET) // MAIDEN CLAIMING // 1 MILE (ALL WEATHER)

SKY NAVIGATOR sat a good stalking trip at 6F, appeared to lose contact with the top pair in early stretch, then re-surged late to finish second to a first-out winner. ZOFFA, competitive for $50k on the Santa Anita turf, shows a pair of 1:01 works to get ready for his main-track debut.
