Monday, June 28: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

by Al Cimaglia

June 28, 2021

The headliners on the 12 race card at Yonkers are two-year-old trotters featured in New York Sires Stakes action. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 7, and that sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

2-Just Plain Loco (3-1)-Paid $69 to win last week and will be a fraction of that price tonight but it was a big effort. Raced the back half in 55.1 and went 3 wide around the last turn and was strong to the wire. Steps-up but this is not a solid field of true $40k claimers, so will respect chances for a repeat.
6-Maroma Beach (20-1)-The #1 and #3 can leave but the rail horse is 0-6 here and faces tougher, #3 is 10-years-old, has missed 3 weeks and has never raced here before. So, will take a swing Joe B finds a close-up seat for this price shot and can be there at the wire.
7-Provocativeprincen (12-1)-This is the 1st start for Burke after a claim on 6-14. Old timer can still leave with some juice and has hit the board in 58 of 121 starts at YR with 19 wins. Fits with this kind and should offer a nice price.

Race 8

2-Fine Diamond (5-1)-This 8-year-old is usually in the hunt, cashes checks at this class and did beat 3 from this crew on 6-14. Holland will need a good steer and does best work racing near the top of the stack. Both seem possible with this post draw.
6-Rockapelo (9/2)-Runner up in the Borgata Final has already banked over $222,000 this year. Has been resting since 4-19 but qualified well at Gty on 6-21. Could get the top if dialed on high. If this Burke trainee fires hot off the bench this could be the 11th picture in 38 tries at Yonkers.

Race 9

1-Forever Fav (7/2)-Steps-up after finishing 2nd versus the $40k claimers. Could leave hard and get on the point or be no worse than in the pocket. Either trip could work. Should be hard to catch if gets on the engine and Joe B steals a quarter.
6-Uptown Funk (8-1)-Paid $42 last week versus this kind and caught a few breaks. The even money choice that day was #7, and he was parked for almost 3/4's of the mile before getting the top. Bartlett had this guy rolling but Rock Lights was getting towed up right behind and then fell. All that said, still rallied nicely and this is a spot to leave to get a close-up seat. Could be overlooked at the windows.
7-Dealt A Winner-Was bet down to even money and tried to leave last week but the fractions were lively. The trip took its toll and was able to cash only a 3rd place check in its first local start this year. This will be only the 3rd lifetime start at YR for this veteran class horse and it would be difficult to imagine getting a worse trip. Expecting better but could be another short price.

Race 10

3-Alluneedisfaith N (4-1)-Just missed in a 149.4 mile at Phl and is in sharp form. Has won 5 times in 16 starts here and Bartlett will likely put this 7-year-old in play on the word go. Should be in the hunt with a top effort.
6-Semi Tough (9/2)-Burke trainee has been off since April after competing in the Borgata series. Got on the engine and qualified at Gaitway Farms in a snappy 151.1 on 6-21. This 5-year-old has hit the board in 10 of 14 starts here and has taken 6 pictures. If the fractions are honest Brennan could find a nice cover flow and roll by them all.
