Tonight, Hoosier Park presents a 13 race card with the headliners being two and three year olds battling in Indiana Sires Stakes action. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 10 and that sequence will be my focus.
The drivers with the hottest hands on Saturday were John De Long and Sam Widger who had three wins. The leading conditioner on the night was Jeff Cullipher with two trips to the winner's circle.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 10
2-Bestaluck (9/2)-Faded after a 1st over trip leaving from post 10 and has a good chance of being a major player with this post draw.
3-Infinite Warrior (4-1)-Hawthorne shipper deserves respect off a nice rally in last to win. But the pace fell apart in that race after a 56.2 opening half. Gets a positive driver change in Oosting but might be over bet in 3rd lifetime start.
5-Hangry (3-1)-Comes off 2 nice qualifiers and showed good speed in the 2nd tune-up on 7-3. Will likely look to get on the engine and not look back. Best to respect the Erv Miller-Trace Tetrick combo but may not offer much value.
7-Ultra Image (8-1)-Willing to take a swing here and will look for a more aggressive steer after a couple of races at this track. Could leave to get a good seat and possibly trip out behind one of the chalks.
Race 11
1-Rockin On Venus (7/5)-Rockin Image 3-year-old could beat this crew from any post but starting from the rail just adds to the likelihood. Oosting should be on the engine and daring anyone to collar him down the lane. Seems to be a smooth trip away from the 7th picture in 10 starts this year.
2-Goldie's Legacy (5-1)-Cullipher trainee has shown solid improvement this year. If Venus doesn't doesn't have his fast ball this guy appears to have the best shot of an upset. Widger should enjoy a pocket ride behind the chalk and has the speed to stay close.
Race 12
1-Girl Giggles (2-1)-Not thrilled with the morning line price but does have a couple of starts at the track. Looks like the rail may help to be forwardly placed and to get an efficient trip over some others.
5-Heidis Image (9/2)-Putnam trainee was in a quick qualifier on 7-3 and raced the back half in 56.2. Should get a good trip with this post draw and be in the hunt at the wire.
9-Coach Keri (4-1)-Finished up nicely in the first start on a big track at Haw. The post makes the price but Widger knows how to work a trip from post 9. This filly could be sitting on a big try and may like the long stretch at HoP. Showed 1.56 speed in Stickney and this surface is normally faster.
Race 13
7-This Kit Rocks (4-1)-Raced from the back against some tough 3-year-olds and finished off the mile with a 25.2 last panel. Has the gate speed to be put in play early and fits well with this crew. If Putnam works a good trip it could lead to the 4th picture in 12 starts this year.
8-Skyway Victor (9/2)-Won the Hoosier Cup Consolation on the 4th of July in gate to wire fashion. Has the gate speed to get a close-up seat and Tetrick should have this Erv Miller entry in striking range at the top of the lane.
9-Brookview Bullet (5/2)-Back in town after making an appearance in the Messenger at Yonkers and was stuck outside with post 7. Has finished in the money in 7 of 11 starts with 5 wins at HoP. Can beat this crew and the post will help the price but the start will be key. Probably can't leave faster than 7 & 8 but could get a decent seat and be close to the top by the last turn.
