As announced on Wednesday, May 1, Omaha Beach will scratch from Kentucky Derby 145 due to an entrapped epiglottis. His defection creates a wide-open betting environment and creates questions about which of the 20 remaining three-year-olds will go favored. Favorites have won the Kentucky Derby the last six years – an unprecedented run – and it’s expected that one of Bob Baffert’s three starters, Roadster, Game Winner or Improbable, will carry that honor this year. Omaha Beach is expected to undergo minor surgery in the next few days and will miss approximately three weeks of training. Look for him to return to the races this summer.
