Bettors’ Edge

By Jeremy Plonk

Tenfold: Forgotten in the Preakness at 26-1, he rallied nicely for third and was beaten less than a length by Justify for all the money. He’s still light on foundation with only 4 career starts toward this taxing assignment. Sire Curlin was strong in defeat here in 2007 behind the filly Rags to Riches, and also will be represented in this year’s Belmont by Vino Rosso. Trainer Steve Asmussen upset the Belmont in 2016 via Creator, who also came through the Arkansas Derby path. Tenfold continues to improve and would seem to have a ceiling not yet achieved, which is good news for his backers. He figures once again to be let go at big odds and has some exotics merit like he did in Baltimore. The last Belmont winner to jump into the Triple Crown chase via the Preakness was Touch Gold in 1997, who denied Bob Baffert’s first attempted Crown sweep with Silver Charm.
