Competitive, Alluring Races in GP West Saturday Late Pick 4

Competitive fields in races 7-10 on Saturday make for an alluring late Pick 4 at Gulfstream Park West, which has yielded some healthy payoffs since it began on Oct. 4.

Good form from Gulfstream Park doesn’t necessarily translate into good form at Gulfstream West, which is old Calder Race Course. Conversely, the switch from Gulfstream to GPW can bring some horses out of a funk. A blend of horses that are in decent form. along with those that have shown a hint that they could be on the verge of improvement. is what is needed over this main track and turf course.

Opening the Pick 4 action is a seven-furlong test for bottom-claiming non-winners of two. The distance is a huge challenge for a lot of horses and favored Little Matt has been in good form on the turf and moves over to the main track. He’ll likely show some speed today but also has the ability to come from well off the pace. While it would be no surprise if Little Matt is a forward factor, there are others that have lingered in so-so form lately but look primed for improvement. Whooo Here We Go has been in shorter races but could fight a front-end trip to his liking here, and other horses used on this ticket include Hi Dandy, Sonofaderbywinner and Mario’s Revenge. Getting past the first leg could be the biggest test for players and the remainder of the races can be whittled down.

Little John W won two straight during the spring and most recently was outrun by much better than what he faces today. He rates the edge in the 8th but should get a good fight from Vigas and Starship Frontier

Charlie the Greek and Red Crescent lead the way in the 9th race, which a state-bred allowance. Charlie the Greek has won two of his last three and comes in off a triumph against $20,000 claimers. That should translate nicely against Florida-breds. Red Crescent was 2nd at this level in his latest and has had his moments against decent foes.

Maiden-claimers on the turf will decide the finale and Soldat’s Storm and King Angelus fit well in his two-turn test. Soldat’s Storm was a non-threatening 2nd in a race that came off the turf. King Angelus has competed well on the turf in his last two and is due for the maiden victory.

Here’s the suggested Pick 4 ticket:

Race 7: #1 Whooo Here We Go, #3 Hi Dandy, #4 Little Matt, #5 Sonofaderbywinner, #8 Mario’s Revenge (1-3-4-5-8)
Race 8: #1 Little John W, #9 Vigas, #10 Starship Frontier. (1-9-10)
Race 9: #4 Charlie the Greek, #7 Red Crescent. (4-7)
Race 10: #2 Soldat’s Storm, #5 King Angelus. (2-5)

50-cent Pick 4: 1-3-4-5-8 with 1-9-10 with 4-7 with 2-5. ($30)
