Hachure rallied for a 31-1 upset in the opening leg of the Laurel Park Late Pick 4 last Friday. Three winning favorites followed, producing a $472 payout for a 50-cent wager. This week’s October 21 lineup features eight or more entrants in each leg, three sprints for fillies and mares and a 5-1/2F turf sprint for the boys. Here’s an early look at the action:

LRL 6th race (3:14 EST) -- Class droppers abound in this $16,000/nw2 claiming sprint for fillies and mares. TAM CHAR worked forwardly for her seasonal debut but raced evenly in a $40,000 turf sprint. But she is a must use considering the winners of her four main-track starts last year are a combined 22-73 with more than $800,000 in earnings to date. BOSS ANGEL broke her maiden at Laurel Park with ease off a five-month layoff, then lost contact in the stretch while chasing $105k earner Fuhgeddaboudit ($105k) and repeat winner My Flicker (3-8, $78k) in two subsequent starts.

LRL 7th race (3:44 EST) -- DIVINE ROMANCE rallied 4-wide to finish second in her debut at Monmouth behind an 8-5 MSW class dropper, and she can be excused for a troubled, second-out run at Pimlico. NEVER DONE willingly pursued the 3-2 winner at 6F and finished second, now adds blinkers off the Capuano claim. ME DARLIN KATHLEEN shows a steady work tab for a 20-percent barn with first-time maiden claimers and her dam, Mellonbrook, won early en route to a 3-13 record and $102k bankroll.

LRL 8th race (4:15 EST) -- Last year’s Maryland Juvenile Fillies runner-up JESTER CALLS NOJOY makes her 3-year-old debut on the barn switch from Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher to Brittany Russell, who won the Laurel Park spring meet training title and entered the week tied for the lead at the current meet. Russell wins at an alarming rate with layoff, new acquisition and first-time Lasix types. BANDITS WARRIOR set a clear pace from post 12 in a double-key sprint race and earned the top speed figure of her $105k career on a ‘good’ track at Pimlico last out. MERCURY HEAD tries to carry-over her marked improvement from the turf to the main track and at least offers good value to the Pick 4 ticket.

LRL 9th race (4:45 EST) – Taking little to chance in this turf sprint with six multiple-race grass winners, proven form at this level and two last-out winners. Go deep in the final leg of the Pick 4.
