Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, November 20, 2023

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card with the 0.50 Pick 5 starting in Race 5. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 7, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 (9:00 PM EST)

1-Layton Hanover (2-1)-Steps-up after getting on the engine from post 4 last week and not looking back. Has beaten this kind before, and Kakaley may use the same plan as last week.
4-Rock Diamonds N (3-1)-Has a string of even efforts and the Jenn B barn has cooled off. But does fit well and Joe Bongiorno will be steering this time, so should land on top or in the 2-hole.

Race 8 (9:20 PM EST)

1-Shakespear (6/5)-Winner of 3 straight versus this kind and didn’t leave from the rail in any of those races. Thinking Brennan will get a good seat but not get the lead off the gate. Then could look to take control sooner than later. Has made it look easy during the winning streak and is a main player again. But it could be more of a challenge tonight.
4-Topville Somrocket (7/2)-Got on the engine and almost lasted but lost by a nose at this level. The winner isn’t in this race and has enough gate speed to get the jump on others. Could land on the point again and be tough to tackle. Stratton takes over for Bartlett and might offer some value.

Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

3-Pinebush Lifesaver (9/2)-Recent form has been dull, now comes back to Yonkers and drops in for a tag. Did beat the $50k claimers in August here but struggled against them since. In with $40k claimers tonight and this isn’t a group that loves taking pictures. Should be a wakeup call, has earned most of its bankroll at YR and Kakaley can provide a smooth steer.
4-Gothic Rock 5/2-Not loving the short price, and will need a top effort to take a picture. But was stuck with post 8 in the last 2 starts. Didn't show any gate speed in those races, landed at the back and that should change here. Does good work racing near the top of the stack and Brennan should be able to work that trip from this post.

Race 10 (10:00 PM EST)

2-Boom Town Boy (15-1)-Not much form to sink your teath into and that pushes me to spread and use a price shot. This colt got on the engine at Yonkers and wired the field on 10-17. There aren't any monsters in this field so why not follow the same script.
3-Fugleman (7/2)-This certainly isn't Per Engblom's star pupil. But will respect connections and this colt has hit the board in 7 of 12 here with 2 pictures. Draws well enough for Joe B to work a suck around trip and roll by down the lane.
4-Louie Hanover (9/2)-This will be the 4th start on Lasix but hasn't connected for a win. Was way back off the gate leaving from post 8 last time but did finish the mile with some pace. Won't be 90-1 again but should offer a good return and might be ready to move forward.
5-Panettone Hanover (9/5)-This is the leading earner in the field and has posted 7 wins this year. Was driven hard in his 1st start on Lasix, leaving from post 9 and was parked during the middle half at M1. Has speed, will be a short price and will use in a real taffy pull. Did finish a close 5th in its only race at Yonkers and was 3-wide much of the mile.
