The eyes of the racing world will be on Gulfstream Park for seven graded stakes on Pegasus World Cup Day this Saturday. But fans should also take a sneak peek at the Friday, Jan. 26 card and the 50-cent Late Pick 4 that features large, competitive fields. Here’s a closer look:

GP 7th race (3:08 p.m. EST) -- FLORIBUNDA bid mid-turn to a brief lead before she was bumped at the eighth pole and passed by a pair of longshot closers going a route of ground on the Tapeta surface. She returns to turf off the Joseph claim, gets Lasix on the cutback to one mile and has a decent MSW grass route to summon in the fall. She saved ground and raced evenly in that ‘key’ October 27 race at Keeneland that produced Grade 3 runner-up Lady de Berry, repeat winner Dazzling Dictator and turf winner – and new stablemate – Cleopatra’s Nile. She will carry the hopes of the Pick 4 ticket as today’s solo play.

GP 8th race (3:37 p.m. EST) -- CANTARO, a two-time, double-digit odds winner at this distance in the fall, almost did it again on the class hike to this level. He advanced between rivals to an ideal ground-saving spot behind the leaders, exchanged bumps with the winning favorite when he tried to squeeze through on the inside at the top of the stretch and battled gamely to the wire to miss by a half-length. The jockey’s objection was disallowed. ROLLING ON dueled throughout in his last two starts, only to come out on the short end of photo-finishes. He takes off the blinkers despite earning the top two speed figures of his career. IF NOT FOR LUCK caught ROLLING ON to win in his second start off a 15-month layoff, posted a 45.3 bullet workout since then and projects an ideal trip in a speed-laden field at a tempting price.

GP 9th race (4:07 p.m. EST) -- DOMINATE THEMOMENT returns from a six-month layoff with his gaudy Gulfstream Park turf record (30/6-4-5, $225K) intact. He rallied from last to get beat in a Monmouth allowance last May that yielded two Grade 3 winners and a four-time stakes-placed grass router. SWING LOW will have to improve to contend in this spot despite a 3-for-6 record on the lawn, but he’s in the right barn to do it and worth using at a big price off the claim. CHANCEAUX set the pace to the stretch in a shorter grass route, now draws the rail while running for the cheapest tag of his career. FATIMA’S BLESSING posted a series of 80-plus Beyers in turf marathons and that translates well to this spot if he stays in contact with the field at a shorter distance.

GP 10th race (4:38 p.m. EST) -- SOUND OF THE BEAST and LOUIE THE SUN KING come in off recent, stakes-placed showings in sprint races where the favorite finished last. But take little to chance in this Florida-bred allowance and hit the ‘ALL’ button in hopes that the ticket is alive.
