Hoosier Park begins the weekend with a 13-race card. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 10. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a low 12% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 10 (8:57 PM EDT)
3-Downbytheocean (9/2)-Beat the NW5000 on 5-8, then faced tougher and didn't shine. Now takes a drop to a level where a picture could happen. Kyle Wilfong should work a ground saving journey and be there at the wire.
7-Round Here Buzz (5/2)-Dropped and popped in last making every call a winning one. Likes to race on the point and Atlee Bender could look to follow the same game plan tonight. Bumps up but should fit with this field.
Race 11 (9:20 PM EDT)
1-Bro Romey (8-1)-Started out slowly in the 1st start on Lasix. Did go the back-half in 55.4 and this race should set up differently. Could be better in the 2nd start with Lasix and does face a beatable field.
2-Assistant Coach (6-1)-Erv Miller pupil has breaking issues and had to put in 3 qualifiers, but the last one was a sharp effort. Got the top and drew off a by a 1/2 block and on 5-30. This barn posts 23% winners off a layoff, and this 3-year-old could be ready to cash the top check.
8-Darknstormy Deo (5-1)-This will be 2nd time Lasix and hung in there to come 3rd with a .54 back half. Tossed a hint last time, and the morning line could be low. Will respect chances, for the camera-shy 4-year-old in a field with question marks.
Race 12 (9:43 PM EDT)
1-Henry The Horse (5/2)-Drawing the rail and taking a big drop should wake this 6-year-old up. Raced better last time and would need the upswing to continue, and it doesn't get much softer than this.
8-Diego N (2-1)-Surprised to see the Yonkers shipper at HoP but did have some breaking issues. In the 1st start, rolled the back half in .55 and hadn't raced in a month. This is the best horse in the field but probably has some issues. With a fair trip should win but can't completely trust.
Race 13 (10:06 PM EDT)
5-Albany Blue Chip (2-1)-Has won 4 of 8 at HoP and that includes a string of 3 straight. Faces basically the same as last week. Will lose at some point, but it makes more sense to string along while facing this bunch.
10-Somemore Soaring (5/2)-Held its own against tough foes as a 3-year-old winning 4 of 12. Now, makes its 1st start of the season and is coming off 2 strong qualifiers on off tracks. Will bank on Trace Tetrick getting the Tyler George entry in play by the top of lane.
