Joe P Racing's Caviart Cherie chased JK Jazzitup around Yonkers Raceway when her four-race winning streak ended in a preliminary heat of the Petticoat Pacing Series. The tables turned, however, in the $62,000 finals last week.

Caviart Cherie took nothing to chance, blasting to the lead from post 8 and cruising to a 1-1/2-length victory in a season-best 1:54. She improved to 7-for-10 in her 4-year-old season for trainer Matias Ruiz.

With Jordan Stratton in the bike, Caviart Cherie cleared the field into the first turn at the half-mile track and never looked back while posting fractions of :26.4 for a quarter mile, :55.2 for the half and 1:23.3 for three quarters. Odds-on favorite Diamondtoothgertie (George Brennan) made a third-quarter move from fourth but never seriously threatened the 9-to-1 winner. JK Jazzitup (Mark MacDonald) sat the pocket trip and held second, capping a $69 exacta.

'SOMETIMES' A BIG WINNER IN SAGAMORE SERIES

David Macdonald's Sometimesawinner is proving almost impossible to defeat. The 3-year-old colt won in the $63,400 finals of the Sagamore Hill Pacing Series at Yonkers Raceway last week to improve to 7-for-9 overall and remain perfect in four starts this season.

The Kevin Switzer-trainee led at every call two preliminary heat victories and then again in the finals of the series for colts and geldings who hadn't won four races or $40,000 before December 1. He now has $75,000-plus in earnings after winning the track's richest race of the year to date.

"He's just push-button," said winning driver George Brennan.

Sometimesawinner, the 4-to-5 favorite, out-sprinted pole-sitting Abbeydorney (Jason Bartlett) to the lead and forced Point Somewherelse (Jeff Gregory) to back off a potential duel to the 3-hole. Point Somewherelse came off the rail for third-quarter advance and ducked to the rail when Abbeydorney backed out of contention.

Sometimesawinner bumped the margin to 2-1/2 lengths on the turn and repelled a final challenge to win by 3/4 of a length in 1:53.2. Point Somewherelse held second over Mach N Cheese (Jordan Stratton), who launced a wide rally on the turn.
