by Al Cimaglia

June 8, 2018

Tonight, at Mohawk some of the finest 3-year-old trotters in North America will be trying to qualify for the $266,000 Goodtimes Stakes which will be contested on June 16. Two of the last four Goodtimes winners, Marion Marauder in 2016 and Triton in 2014, went on to be victorious in the Hambletonian.

There will be two eliminations, Race 5 and Race 8, with the top five finishers in each dash qualifying for the Goodtimes Final. There is a total of 21 trotters competing tonight with 12 being Hambletonian eligible. Those staked for the Hambo are: Hat Trick Habit, Wolfgang, Alarm Detector, Lawmaker, Joey, Story Time Hanover, Winning American, Cruising In Style, War Story, Smokee Mirrors, Hill Street, and Missle Hill.

Comments and selections below for the Goodtimes Eliminations are based on a fast track.

Race 5

5-Wolfgang (5/2)-Rates a very slight edge as may have more to prove in season debut, banked >$300k in 2017.

3-Hat Trick Habit (3-1)-Comes off a very sharp win on 6/1 and could repeat but might not be as aggressive as #5.

1-Jula Downtown (8-1)-Rallied off a perfect trip in last, will respect connections and could spice up exotics.

6-Run Director (8-1)-Local hope can make presence felt with some live cover, should be rolling late.

4-Lawmaker (12-1)-Nice, handy colt who suffered a setback in training, but if ready will have a good shot at qualifying.

Race 8

5-Alarm Detector (2-1)-Simply has been machine like and if tuned up properly will be tough to beat.

1-Fiftydallarbill (3-1)-Could be the winner if takes to the Mohawk oval, #5 does have a home field advantage.

7-Perfetto (5-1)-Appears a notch below the top 2 but if minds manners could be a factor in late going.

9-Hill Street (6-1)-Versatile Takter trainee is a decent trip away from qualifying for the Final.

2-Cruising In Style (15-1)-Tries Lasix, has the speed to compete and will respect chances from this post for a top 5 finish.
