Harness Highlights: Top 3-Year-Olds At Dover Thursday

Dover Downs will host four divisions of the Matron Stakes for 3-year-olds Thursday, with each race carrying a purse of more than $150,000. Post time in 4:30 EST.

Breeders Crown champion Dorsoduro Hanover will run in the colt & gelding pace. Multiple stakes winner Youaremycandygirl heads a deep field in the filly pace. Six Pack looms a strong favorite in the colt & gelding trot. Midwest invader Custom Cantab (6-1 morning line) will try to continue a perfect in-the-money record this season (28/14-10-4) in the filly trot.

In other harness racing news:

  • Northfield Park will host a new Progressive claiming series and entries are due this Saturday, Nov. 17. Pacers can be entered for a base claiming price of $6,000, $10,000 or $20,000, while trotters can enter for $10,000 or $20,000. Entry fee is $300. Call 330-467-4101 for more information.
  • Bruce Maxwell’s J J S Jet (Drew Campbell) surged late in Monday’s featured $15,000 open handicap pace at Plainridge Park for his 50th career victory. James Dunn trains the 9-year-old gelding, who has made 185 starts.
  • Aaron Merriman guided Wind Of The North to victory in an $18,000 preferred trot at the The Meadows to pad his lead as North America’s leading driver with five victories on the card.
  • Yannick Gingras, enjoying another $10 million earnings season, teamed with trainer Ron Burke for four wins Saturday at the Meadowlands, including repeater Windsong Jack ($2.20), Rock Motion ($5.40), Dragon Time ($14) and 10-year-old Magnum Mike ($6.40).
  • Trace Tetrick won his fifth consecutive driving title at Hoosier Park, finishing the 160-day season with 309 wins. Jeff Cullipher sent out Wings Up and Inverie Hanover to victory on the final day of the meet to edge Jamie Macomber, 119-116, for the trainer’s title.
