Harness racing fans are anxiously awaiting the announcement for 2018 Horse, Pacer and Trotter of the Year. But another race is going down to the wire as three geldings vie to become North America’s winningest horse. Windsong Leo stayed on pace with his 20th victory in the featured preferred handicap at the The Meadows Monday afternoon. A few hours later, Southwind Amazon picked up his 21st victory with a front-end score in Northfield Park’s open handicap pace. Canadian-based Spicey Victor has trotted to 20 victories in 2018 but suffered an odds-on setback in his most recent start.

Miami Valley Raceway is seeking top drivers for its third annual North America Drivers Championship January 6-8. The Ohio track will provide hotel accommodations and licenses for out-of-state drivers. George Napolitano Jr. won 271 races for his fifth driving title at Harrah’s Philadelphia and trainer Ron Burke reigned supreme for the seventh time with 130 victories.

Frank Milby edged Russell Foster, 45-44, for Fall Meet honors as Rosecroft’s top driver. Arlene Cameron sent out 27 winners as leading trainer.

The Minnesota Racing Commission approved a 52-day racing schedule at Running Aces Racetrack in 2019, starting May 18.

Proposed legislation to provide $20 million annually to New Jersey’s horse racing industry advanced out of the state’s Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee by a 13-0 vote earlier this month.
