Established in 1864, the Travers Stakes, a Grade I Thoroughbred horse race, unfolds at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York, earning its moniker "Midsummer Derby"; distinguished as the third-highest rated competition for American three-year-olds on the global scale, trailing solely the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes; commemoratively named after William R. Travers, former head of the Saratoga Racing Association, whose own steed, Kentucky, clinched the inaugural Travers victory.
